Last Beach Day

3/31/2019

Yesterday was our last beach day. A storm with heavy winds came through last night and dumped about 2" of rain that lasted all day. We knew it was coming and planned accordingly. It gave us a day to get things in order for the trip north, which starts tomorrow morning. So yesterday did not disappoint. It was the warmest day all month and there was lots going on as you can see.

Black Marlin

We have found several great restaurants in this little beach town: La Playa Mexican Grill, Fins, Stingrays, Bluewater Cowboy.

Our first trip to the Black Marlin Bar and Grill was a couple weeks ago with friends Pete and Joyce Newman who drove down from Brenham to spend a Sunday afternoon. Thanks to some shenanigans (complaining about a dish not being available until 5:00pm and we were there for a late brunch), we got to meet chef Gail Huesman.  She showed up at our table about 60 seconds after our waiter relayed our disappointment, introduced herself, chatted a bit, and then disappeared. True to form, I commented to our friends, "It was nice to meet her, but why on earth would she come out like that and not say a word about our thwarted request."  I should know better, right?
Shortly after, our waiter delivered a generous taste of not only the dish we had asked for, but a sample of their most-requested dish! Both were delicious, as was the rest of our meal. She was a most gracious hostess, returning to see how we liked the food and telling us more about herself and her restaurants. And Pete and Joyce, who generously treated us to the meal and spent the afternoon touring around P.A. with us, are the best company!
So, Doug and I returned for another meal there as our time in P. A. was winding down. This time we opted for seafood--scallops, red snapper, shrimp, and crab. Yum!

There's always enough wind at the beach to fly a kite. Today there seemed to be even more than usual. And skoctopus was back!

A Vet Visit

Today we took Moose to see Dr. Alex David at the Island Animal Clinic. He was treated for a skin/ear infection. She and her staff were so nice and helpful. They split all his pills for us including some into eighths! (He's a tiny one!) Their walls are covered with photos of their many patients, and this in the treatment room we occupied:

Today there was Jeep club rallying at the beach. We talked to one of the owners who said they have a rally every May where about 2,000 Jeeps (and their owners) attend. Can't imagine what that looks like!

Sly's Twisted Ice

Yesterday, we stopped for ice cream and learned this place is brand new--open less than a week. Addy and Kaylyn were working hard preparing delicious rolled ice cream for us. It's a labor intensive process and they nailed it! Here they are with their creation -- Cookie Monster, along with a close up of their handiwork. Be sure to stop in when you're in the neighborhood.

Oh, and you can also get a luxury car wash at Sly's too!
